MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi, I am trying to get Jeff Rawling's mailform script to work. I seem to be able to 'insertrow' from the Form Data correctly. There are two problems I am trying to solve. 1. The e-mail template with #fieldnames doesn't seem to get the values substituted. eg. I get the following msg.. Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 16:20:13 -0500 From: #email@web01c.farm.aol.com To: bakki@ncinter.net First Name: #firstname Initial: #initial Last Name: #lastname Company: #company Address: #address City: #city State: #state Zip: #zip Country #country Phone: #phone FAX: #fax Message: #message 2. I dont' get my return page. Instead I get the stock page from Primehost saying that the data was inserted successfullw with a link to update etc.. For the first problem I was wondering if there is an error in the regsub -all"#[ns_set key $formdata $i]" $template \ "[ns_set value $formdata $i]" template or is there an error in the way I have formatted the template? I've been staring at this too long and I might miss the obvious now. Do the extra newlines cause any problems here. But then even the #email field on the second line didn't get substituted. Regarding the return page I remember from the archives that there was a message some time back about there being an error in the 'insertrow' function. Does anyone know the fix to this?? BTW I am using the mailform.tcl at the primehost "commercial level" site. I'd really appreciate any help on this. In 2.1, unlike 2.0x, database connections are NOT automatically established at startup and stay open. Instead they get established when needed and stay open for 10 minutes (that's the default value configurable in nsd.ini). After 10 minutes of a connection being "stale" (not used) the connection is dropped. The advantage of this is the server can now startup in about 5-7 seconds (with about 10 virtual servers) as opposed to about 20-30 seconds before (depending on the number of connections), plus memory is conserved. (each connection actually runs a separate MISERVER.exe process (about 200-300k when not doing anything)). The disadvantage is that if there are no open available connections, when you querry the database from a web page, it takes a bit longer for the first operation. Hope this helps. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Khassin AM Computers mailto:akhassin@am.net 1040-B N. Actually, the right program is in fact nsql in server/bin/ NOT illustra/bin. The msql program we don't have a license for any more. The nsql is virtually identical to msql except for we DO have a license for it till year 2006 but it won't let your create functions and do some other things. Let's you export existing DBs you have laying around in either CSV or tab-delimited and badda-boom badda-bing, all that info is now available thru your web site. So what am I looking for help with? Well two things actually; 1)does anyone know of or have a corresponding Vacuum.tcl? This would work beautifully along side Upload.tcl .. just suck the old data out .. ftp up the fresh db and Upload. 2)Does anyone know how to or has anyone already modified the exsisting Upload.tcl so that you can place your file that you're importing from in a folder other than the root directory (/pages)? I would like to set it up so that my clients can do this for themselves, but for obvious reasons I can't have them uploading into my root directory. Bakki, Hope I can help, but please don't mind the spelling or sentence structure .. it's late. I use the stock version of mailform.tcl all over the OBI site with hitch one. First off, are you using the .eml or .row? I suspect you are using the .row because you speak of inserting rows. If this is the case, try renaming your variables to get them into the table properly .. examples; WAS SHOULD BE First Name: #firstname #ColValue.firstname Initial: #initial #ColValue.initial Last Name: #lastname #ColValue.lastname Company: #company #ColValue.company Address: #address #ColValue.address City: #city #ColValue.city this is because these variables are really values being inserted into a table with Column Names of firstname, initial, lastname, company, address amd city. I suspect you have them right in your html form, or the rows wouldn't be inserting properly. If not, you must also change your html form to match WAS SHOULD BE Check out the source code at http://www.outer-banks.nc.us/eats/review_submission.htm for a working example of such a form. Notice how the hidden tags input the locations of the return files (name="returnfile") and when used,it's not here, the autoresponce template. They are referenced from the top of your /pages folder. For the corresponding .row file check out; http://www.outer-banks.nc.us/eats/review_submission.row This is a pretty simple example, but it should get you on your way. Subject: DB Stale Comments: cc: JamesX_Blakeman@ccm.jf.intel.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit James - Eric Klein posted a note a month or two ago explaining the mysterious "Db: Stale" log entries. What happens is that the server opens database connections as they are needed, then leaves them in an open pool of connections for a while. When another connection is needed, it uses an already-open connection from the pool. After these open connections have sat idle in the pool for a while, the server closes them and reports the "Db: Stale" log entry. It's actually a good feature - for Illustra on Unix, the database server process will completely shutdown after all connections have been closed and restart when the next connection is opened. This re-initialization is good if there are any memory leaks in the DB server, however it does make opening the next connection slower. I think I'm going to put some code in my (web) server so that it opens a connection to the DB whenever it notices the DB server daemon has gone away. This happened again yesterday a few minutes after midnight. Only 1 of my virtual servers had activity; it had a couple of accesses shortly after midnight, then one of the nsd processes went into a CPU loop and hung *all* virtual servers. This virtual server does use Perl CGI scripts. Killing the looping process caused the entire server to restart, then everything was okay. I have DNS lookups turned off on all my servers. Since I have minimal traffic right now, I'm very concerned that when I get more traffic, this is going to become much more of a problem. Any ideas of what could be causing this behavior or how I can correct it? Are there any specific IRIX 5.3 patches I should have installed? You are experiencing similar problems as I did a couple of months ago. I got a lot of help that time from the list which helped me to work around the problem. In my case the server did not die so gracefully (with a message) but simply hung, although I could read from the logfiles that the maximum threads had been reached. There were several messages to me suggesting DNS lookup as the reason. I turned off DNS lookup everywhere I could find it and the server has been running happily ever since. Seems that if DNS lookup times out or is unsuccessful, the thread is not terminated. If this happens maxthread times, and your server hangs. You might specifically look at the folowing entries in NSD.INI : [ns/server/-yourserver-/module/nslog] EnableHostnameLookup=Off [ns/server/-yourserver-/module/nsperm] EnableHostnameLookup=Off The first entry controls whether you get hostnames or IP-addresses written to your access-log. The second controls whether you'll be able to restrict access based on hostname or only based on IP-address. I suggest you turn all DNSlookup off, restart AOLserver and see whether this solves your problem. You'll miss some features connected with DNSlookup, but at least you might be able to keep your server running. Hope this helps. I have configured AOLserver on NT 4.0. Everything seems to be working fine operations-wise, but there seems to be a severe limitation (I am hoping that this is because of my lack of expertise of AOLserver on the NT). I would like to be able to serve directories from the other PC workstations in accessable via the workgroups. I can access these other workstation disks by mapping them to network drives, for instance to E: drive. But I can not let AOLserver to serve the files from there. I tried defining aliases also. I could define an alias D to point to the CDROM drive D:. AOLserver showes all the files in the CD when I look at http://host/D/. But this does not seem to work with the mapped network drives. I also tried putting my own user name into the AOLserver UID/user field, that did not help either. Since I don't have sufficient space on my server machine and we would like to keep a distributed environment, I really need the ability to serve the files from other machines. The UNIX machines has no problem with this, thanks to the great UNIX file linking ability, but NT sucks big time about it. Is there anyway to let AOLserver to get around this handicap? Any pointers are GREATLY APPRECIATED. ========================================================================= Date: Tue, 18 Feb 1997 16:24:25 -0100 Reply-To: Web Development with AOLserver Sender: Web Development with AOLserver From: Rene Seidl Organization: Network-Providing Subject: NT4.0 + AOLServer2.1 + Perl5 - PROBLEMS MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi folks! Also I wrote down my original mappings and swear I have those listed yet clock and counter are still random when they operate recently :( by random I mean 1 time they run and another they wont say 50% time they wont run yet another reload sequence in netscape will make them work again. MY apologys for the long letter but I am at my wits end trying to decide what the true correct NSCGI mapping should be Thankyou all Kerry Soon to be..Barlow&Barlow computers Servers for you. http://204.181.7.192 barlow@servtech.com ========================================================================= Date: Wed, 26 Feb 1997 20:45:50 -0500 Reply-To: Web Development with AOLserver Sender: Web Development with AOLserver From: Bevan Davies Subject: Server Error MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Friends, When I try to run a perl script from my cgi-bin directory, I receive the message: "Server error: encountered a configuration of operating system error". For example every posting to the mailinglist could be stored in a mailinglist-Web Gateway, a http based discussion group so that everyone can read new questions and answers as soon as they are posted. So noone has to be wait a week ore more for the answers. BTW: who is developing the AOLServer ? Maybe i can direct a question about programming internals direct to a developer ? Unfortunately I killed it before I had time to think about it. :-) However, I remember you mentioning configuring the nscgi section. That might be part of your problem. The nscgi section is defunct (pre 2.1) and is no longer used, so whatever you put in it has no effect. :-) Instead, the cgi functionality is now built into nsd.exe, no nscgi module is required. So, therefore the section to configure is [server//cgi] Same applies to db (no more nsdb) and shtml (instead of nsshtml). Hope this helps. --=_28tW21g.bO1997u.N09d000A.r02Y.39:004838 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="alexsig.txt" Content-Description: The Sender's Signature -- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Khassin AM Computers mailto:akhassin@am.net 1040-B N. For each specific user you want to be included on your server. An example would be http://www.thegreenpages.com (main folder) http://www.the_other_yellow_pages.com/John_Diveny http://www.the_other_yellow_pages.com/Shaz_Chaudy http://www.the_other_yellow_pages.com/Chris_Smuv the directory structure would be the following: c:\aolserver\servers\the_other_yellow_pages\pages\John_Diveny c:\aolserver\servers\the_other_yellow_pages\pages\Shaz_Chaudy c:\aolserver\servers\the_other_yellow_pages\pages\Chris_Smuv NOTE: As an added security, you must properly setup the permissions scheme for AOLpress accordingly to each user. For example John_Diveny should not have permissions to edit Chris_Smuv's directory using AOLpress. Hope this helps, Hey.... your caddie asking for too much tip? Sure, people may abuse it, but the free"er" flow of information is worth it. That being said, here's my problem. I've got AOLserver uo and running fine on my linux machine. I also have the non-exportable nsssl.so module. After the module, killing and restarting my server, I expected to get the Secure configuration on my startup page - no go. I have no way apparently to create a new key/cert pair, or change the cert. type. Is this a problem with the admin stuff on the linux version, or what? Mark R.
