I got no response and was wondering if anyone had any luck with the ODBC driver and if development team can shed any light on potential issues. It might well be that ODBC indeed is about 50 times slower then the native driver for Illustra and if so I'd just like to know that ... What happens is that every other request for your domain will get a different IP number. The only thing to worry about is if you have CGI scripts or other server-side services that depend on the state of the connection; you'll have to make sure that each visitor keeps visiting the same host across several connections. Here's an example of how it might work for you. You might see this kind of behavior on very large web sites: mntnweb.com represents two IP numbers in a DNS rotor, one of them has its nssock and nsssl modules answer to an IP number that represents the hostname www1.mntnweb.com and the other machine answers to www2.mntnweb.com. For general browsing, you can just give people the mntweb.com address. When they visit your web site, the URL on their browser's Location field will magically change to www1.mntnweb.com or www2.mntnweb.com depending on which one thier nameserver tells them to visit. You're all set since from this point on, they are using only one machine and maintaining state (like CGI scripts and response forms) will be very easy from that point on. Asking for a DNS rotor is a somewhat unusual request; I hope your service provider will be able to arrange it for you. I've dealt with this kind of setup before, but it was more of a load-balancing issue than a co-location issue. I'm sure it will very easy to set up once you and your provider understand how it works. You should note that DNS is fairly stupid though - it will return whichever IP address it thinks is "closest" to the nameserver doing lookups for your browser clients. There is no load balancing, nor will everything be wonderful if one of your sites goes down - DNS will not automagically start sending clients to the site that is up. It runs fine for the most part, but every few days it will spike to 100% CPU usage, and stay there, all the while still working.
